New Ground

Exhibition Opening - 9 May - 2:00 to 4:00 pm

New Ground brings together a group of emerging artists from the APY Art Centre Collective, each within the first five years of their practice.

Curated by Tiarnie Edwards, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on contemporary APY art - one that centres a new generation of voices while remaining deeply connected to Country, community and cultural knowledge.

Working across painting and textile-based practices, the artists each bring a distinct visual language shaped by lived experience. Rather than a survey, New Ground marks a point of emergence - where individual practices begin to take form, and connections between works unfold naturally.

As Edwards notes, “Country is the thread that connects all Aboriginal peoples,” grounding the stories carried through each work. Across the exhibition, colour, gesture and material hold generations of knowledge, while younger artists carve out their own ways of expressing and sharing it.

Spanning artists from the APY Lands, Coober Pedy and Port Augusta, New Ground is both a continuation and a shift - honouring intergenerational traditions while making space for new perspectives to come forward.
